Welcome to Pohatcong Native Arboretum

Pohatcong Native Arboretum, Native Tree Museum of New Jersey, has an exhibition on display of over 150 species of native trees, shrubs, and vines. The plants are identified by plaques with common, family, genus, and species names. Between 2010 and 2015 our plant collection was tripled.

Pohatcong Native Arboretum is a Native American inspired sanctuary that honors our "Local Roots" both plants and people. The public arboretum features native woody plants organized by botanical family, Native American elements, forested wetlands, and a log cabin with an art gallery. 

This extraordinary place is an educational, scientific, and aesthetic wonder founded in 2002 by a grant through Rutgers University. The arboretum is located in Pohatcong Creek Natural Area, Washington Township, Warren County.

Open daily during daylight hours 

For the safety of our visitors and plant collection. Please observe the following guidelines:

• Children to be supervised by an adult

• Please no running or sports activities

• Be respectful of the plant families and stone beds

• Stay on grass pathways

• Be careful around plant identification posts

• Please do not collect flowers, branches, or fruit

• Close the gate upon leaving

Allow time to fully experience the arboretum. Trees and shrubs are labelled throughout the whole property including inside the fence.

Directions: 

Pohatcong Native Arboretum is located one mile north of downtown Washington, Warren County. Driving west on State Highway 57 make a right on to Belvidere Avenue. Go 3/4 mile to a four way stop. Proceed straight (changes to Mine Hill Road). Go 1/4 mile down the hill. The arborteum is on the right before Pohatcong Creek and Fairway Valley Golf Club.
